Legal Aid Costs Lawyer – 100% Remote

You will be a meticulous Legal Aid Costs Draftsman. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic legal environment, preparing accurate cost documentation and offering expert support to legal teams handling Legal Aid cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft comprehensive Legal Aid bills, including inter partes bills and schedules of costs.
- Prepare and submit claims for payment using the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) systems, such as CCMS.
- Ensure compliance with LAA cost guidelines and regulations in all prepared documentation.
- Handle the negotiation and settlement of costs, ensuring optimal outcomes.
- Provide support and advice to fee earners on Legal Aid costing procedures and best practices.
- Liaise with the Legal Aid Agency, courts, and other stakeholders as required.
- Monitor and manage deadlines effectively to avoid delays in cost recovery.
About You:
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Costs Draftsman, with a strong focus on Legal Aid cases.
- Thorough knowledge of Legal Aid Agency guidelines and billing procedures.
- Familiarity with LAA online systems, including CCMS.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing cost schedules and bills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for liaising with internal and external parties.
Desirable:
- Experience in drafting civil or family Legal Aid costs.
- Knowledge of costs budgeting and detailed assessments.
- Accreditation or qualification in legal costs (e.g., ACL membership).
