The Role
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Costs Draftsman to join our growing agency. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in drafting and negotiating costs within commercial litigation, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in preparing detailed bills of costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting Bills of Costs, Costs Budgets (Precedent H), and Points of Reply in commercial litigation matters
- Preparing and assessing costs schedules for high claims
- Negotiating costs settlements directly with opposing parties and clients
- Liaising with solicitors, fee earners, and clients to ensure accuracy in costing documentation
- Supporting the team in cost recovery strategies and advocating best practices in costs management
- Keeping up to date with costs-related case law and legislative changes
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 8 years in costs drafting, preferably within commercial litigation
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in drafting bills of costs for complex, high-value cases
- Negotiation Skills: Ability to advocate and negotiate favourable settlements
- Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills to ensure precise cost calculations
- Communication: Clear, professional interaction with clients and legal teams
