Our Client, a leading costs consultancy expanding across three UK locations, is seeking an experienced Costs Drafting Billing Manager to join their growing Manchester team. With a highly-skilled group of Costs Lawyers and consultants boasting over 100 years of collective experience, they specialize in clinical negligence and personal injury costs management, delivering fast and precise costs budgeting solutions to their clients.

Role Overview

As Costs Drafting Billing Manager, you will oversee the preparation of detailed costs pleadings, including bills of costs and Precedent H budgets. You will provide strategic support, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and case law, while maintaining the highest formatting and submission standards.

Reporting to the Head of Costs in the North West, this remote-friendly position requires regular engagement with solicitors at claimant law firms, managing a diverse portfolio of costs matters. You will take an active role in supervising drafting processes, ensuring efficient turnaround times and accuracy in legal documentation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the drafting of costs budgets, bills of costs, and Precedent H budgets
  • Ensure compliance with procedural rules, case law, and court formatting standards
  • Collaborate with solicitors to effectively manage costs negotiations and assessments
  • Oversee the preparation of cost pleadings and detailed cost litigation documents
  • Provide guidance on complex cost litigation and detailed assessment hearings
  • Conduct legal research to maintain up-to-date knowledge in costs management
  • Support junior team members in cost drafting and budget preparation

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in costs management claims (clinical negligence & personal injury)
  • Qualified Costs Lawyer or equivalent extensive experience in cost drafting
  • Strong background in complex cost litigation and assessment hearings
  • Proficiency in drafting bills of costs, costs budgets, and legal cost documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, managing multiple caseloads efficiently
