Costs Draftsman/Lawyer – Court of Protection Team

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our Court of Protection costs team in Sheffield. You’ll play a key role in preparing Bills of Costs for Detailed/Provisional Assessment and handling litigation through the Court process. Advocacy may also be part of your role, depending on requirements and agreement with the Costs Partner.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing Bills of Costs for assessment and litigation.
• Providing expert advice to clients and taking instructions throughout each case.
• Offering technical support to fee earners and contributing to the training of junior team members.

Ideally, you will have at least two years’ experience, whether in-house or with an external provider of costs drafting services.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• Previous experience in costs drafting (in-house or external).
• A strong understanding of legal procedures.
• Proficiency with IT systems and time recording processes.
• The ability to manage caseloads efficiently while maintaining accuracy.
• A flexible mindset, ready to adapt to changing priorities.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with stakeholders.
• A collaborative approach while also being confident working independently.

Desirable:

• Financial or legal qualifications (e.g. ACL qualification, ILEX Part 1 Year 1).
• Experience in legal departments, ideally with Court of Protection knowledge.
